Climates message for the last week of our crowd funding campaign is - Go Climatarian!

17th July 2015

A simple switch to a Climatarian diet is good for your health and the planet, can save a tonne of CO 2 a year and you don't have to give up meat.

Climates aims to make it easier to live a climate-friendly lifestyle and food is an area where it’s easy to do that. Simply replacing beef and lamb with pork or chicken in everyday meals can make a big difference.

"Beef and lamb have about five times more climate impact than pork and poultry," says Climates Founder Biba Hartigan. "Food overall causes up to 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions so this simple change can have a big impact - and cutting down on red meat is good for your health too.”

Going Climatarian is a really easy way to cut your carbon footprint, saving the equivalent of driving 3,500 miles a year.

Whether you’re a pasta, curry or stir fry lover, you can just mix it up with pork, chicken and fish and lots of lovely vegetables for a climate friendly meal. If you can’t bring yourself to go the whole hog, treat yourself occasionally to a meal of beef or lamb, and choose the highest welfare, organically farmed, free range meat.

If cutting it out seems too hard, cut down. Replace beef and lamb with pork and chicken in a few favourite recipes. Pork mince Bolognese is great, chicken lasagne quite delicious and cottage pie is perfect with pork.

Climates is for people who want to take practical action in their own lives to tackle climate change. We’re already building a lively community, and this crowdfunding campaign is raising funds to build a vibrant website to host the network.

We’re now into the last week of the campaign. Please support us by pledging whatever you can so we can share more great ideas like this. And please…tell your friends!

You're right Niall, a vegan diet has the lowest climate impact. Have you got some tasty recipes to share?

The climatarian diet is for meat eaters who aren't ready or able to go vegan. there are all sorts of reasons for that but I'd still encourage people to have some meat free days.
