The average (UK) person walks only four miles a week.

This includes babies and some other people who do not walk at all, but it is still low, and has been falling since the mid-nineties.

A quarter of the population never walks for twenty minutes at a time.

Healthy recommendations are to have half an hour of moderate exercise five times a week. We could all benefit from ditching the car and bus to step it out for short local trips.

Walk a mile and a half a day, an average half hour's exercise, instead of driving to save 0.45kg CO2e per walk or 164kg CO2e per year.
