Action

Processed foods carry an increased carbon burden.

Choosing fresh, unprocessed foods saves added energy emissions. Favour food that is produced locally and is in season.

It is difficult to quantify the carbon savings of some Actions. In this case we allocate a nominal CO2e per year. This is not reflective of the actual potential savings but to show that you are making a difference.  If possible we will provide representative calculations at a later date.

In Tobago there is an abundance of fresh food and a culture of sharing what is in season with friends and neighbours. We have a thriving market in Scarborough (the capital) and many fruit and veg stalls on the roadside around the island, and many people have fruit trees and veg patches in their gardens. However, I think there is more imported produce in the shops than there used to be. Anybody else agree? What's it like where you live?
