Report on Food Waste in England

The Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs committee (EFRA) released their report on food waste this week and it's refreshing to see the committee clearly recognise the high environmental cost of food waste and the urgent need to tackle the issue.

The document is attached if you'd like to read the report in full, but some of the key recommendations include;

- England adopting a national food waste target

- Supermarket transparency on food waste and mandatory, comparable reporting on food waste for businesses above a certain size

- Relaxing strict cosmetic specifications that cause perfectly good produce to go to waste - embracing wonky veg!

So some positive progress, but now we have to wait and hope that the new government takes up their recommendations and joins the food waste fight.
